spe's Description of the Game:

1066, Tears to Many Mothers is an asymmetrical strategic competitive deck building card game pitting the Saxon army, led by the King of England, Harold Godwinson, against the Norman army, led by the Duke of Normandy, William FitzRobert, which culminates with the Battle of Hastings in 1066.

The main action of the game consists of each player building their army into three wedges using the cards from their hand. In deck-building fashion cards are spent to play other cards into the wedges as well as powering action abilities of other cards. Players must make strategic choices about which cards to spend and which cards to play. Players make tactical decisions about where in each wedge of the battle to place Leader/Character/Unit cards to best achieve victory in that wedge against their opponent. Players can also use the other three types of cards in their hand, Attachments, Events, and Tactics, to affect cards in the wedges. While building their army each player must complete a series of objectives in order to reach the final battle. Players are attempting to complete their own objectives, while at the same time trying to damage and/or disrupt their opponent's army construction and their ability to complete objectives. Once each side completes all their objectives they reach the main encounter, which for the game 1066 is the Battle of Hastings, and use their armies' might and zeal in an attempt to win the day. A player can win the game in one of three ways. The first way to win the game is by applying enough damage tokens to exceed the opponent's leader's health points thus killing the opposing leader. The second way a player can win the game is by being the first to inflict damage equal to the wedge cards' total for 2 of the 3 wedges of the battlefield. And the third way a player can win the game is by forcing their opponent to run out of cards from their draw deck.

1066, Tears to Many Mothers is a 1-4 player game. As the first installment of the Historical Epic Battle System (HEBS) you can play 1-2 players with the base game and up to 4 players with at least 2 base games. What makes the game asymmetrical are the unique cards of each faction and that each faction has a different amount of each type of card. This game is strategic by providing players choices regarding which cards to use and when and which cards to spend or tire as resources to play other cards or action abilities. Players have to decide where to place and move cards on the battlefield in order to dominate each wedge and win the titular battle. The game is competitive at all player counts as one is required to beat the opponent in order to win the game. Currently the other two games in HEBS are 1565, St. Elmo's Pay (The Great Siege of Malta between the Ottoman Empire and the Knights Hospitaller) and 1815, Scum of the Earth (The Battle of Waterloo and the struggle for power between Napoleon Bonaparte and the Duke of Wellington). Any of the base game sets can be used for 2-4 player games. The players simply choose one faction's objective and draw decks to play with. The terms "Wedge" and "Frontier" are interchangeable as are the cannon and axe might icons.

1066, Tears to Many Mothers is a beautifully created card game with detailed art depicting the members of each side. The components are well crafted and there is plenty of room in the box to store sleeved cards.

From Box to Table & Back Again ...

"From Box to Table & Back Again" includes my notions of how I bring games to the table more quickly. Here I share ideas for keeping all the necessary parts organized and at hand for game play as well as storage solutions to efficiently set-up and put away the game. For me all components in the box must pass the "shake, rattle, & roll" test, and games must be able to be shelved in any orientation while maintaining their order. Developing these concoctions is an enjoyable puzzle to solve and I relish the crafting time. These innovations work for me and simply represent one way of enhancing the gaming experience.

Enhancements that facilitate getting the game "From Box to Table & Back Again" for 1066, Tears to Many Mothers include: game play storage, enhanced might & zeal tokens, additional numbered damage tokens, and wedge organizers.
